Over a year ago, I saw an episode on Oprah about having birthday traditions. I knew then that I wanted to have a birthday photo tradition.
So I thought and thought and thought.
And then I remembered the hippie dress. The dress with crazy yet beautiful patterns that my mom saved from her hippie days back in the 70s. I always loved this dress, but the sleeves are a bit too funky -- a bit too hippie -- for me to ever wear.
Sydney wouldn't have anything to do with the dress (maybe it's a bit too hippie for her too), so I hung it over the fence and used it as part of the backdrop. Maybe next year she'll at least sit on it. And in 10 years maybe she'll wear it.
Whatever it is, the dress will be there. My mom's dress, my photo, my little girl. I'm such a sucker for traditions.
