As I mentioned before, as a reward for being such good wives and mommies during HoopFest, Rachel and I decided to start a tradition of ShopFest. We went to the grand and glorious mall downtown Spokane which had such wondrous stores I had never seen before. Like Restoration Hardware, and a children's clothing boutique that had the most adorable clothing (a mere $70 for a summer dress...hmm, maybe when I'm rich and famous!).
I confess I'm not generally big on clothes shopping...window shopping mostly depresses me since I rarely have money to buy clothes. But shopping with Rach quickly cured me of the shopping blues! She has marvelous style, whereas I am rather hopeless beyond matching colors. But no more! I have made a pact with myself to not go shopping without her...ever again! So take note, Rach...you're my personal shopper :)
First off were the mandatory iced lattes, then it was off to Nordstroms where Rachel found the cutest shoes and purse for her upcoming visit to Vegas. Rachel's cousin Melissa was also along, and we forced her to try on swimsuits. I'm telling you, we were crazy shopping!
More shopping in Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware, where we quickly sized up furniture according to whether or not it was kid-proof. And those white couches? Not even husband proof. Seriously.
And then to Banana Republic. Oh be still my beating heart. A room of linens and soft cottons, of twirly skirts and sassy scarves. I glanced through a rack of dresses, turned and saw it. The clouds surely parted and the angels sang, for there on a sweet little mannequin was The Outfit. I gazed longingly, and Melissa and Rachel quickly scouted out the clothes and marched me off to the dressing room. As an added bonus, I'm sure Banana Republic resizes their clothing to make sure you end up in a size smaller than you normally wear. Tricky. Very tricky. But it melts a girl's heart for sure.
A year of wearing ratty tshirts and sweatpants finally wore me down, and I threw my budget to the wind. In a fit of passion and enthusiasm I snapped up the entire outfit...jeans, sweater, and shirt. It's the most yummy shade of yellow and the jeans, with their pale yellow threading, are divine. Indeed, I'm smitten. Can you tell?
In the end, ShopFest was a roaring success. Alas, I must say with great disappointment that it doesn't quite have the happy ending I was hoping for. Long story short, we discovered today that the frequent flier points that we had saved up for our tickets to Hawaii aren't going to work out. Buying tickets means *sniffle* the pretty outfit gets returned (along with some other summer clothes I had purchased). I know there's more to life than nice clothes, and I should just be grateful we even can go to Kauai. But it would have been nice to have some new clothes to go with the vacation, hmmm?
Okay, just one more peek at my dream outfit...At least I got the thrill of shopping and buying and the picture to remember my fun day at the mall. Even if it had to come to an end eventually.
