I have to say, you all leave the most wonderful comments. Thanks for allowing me to be honest about my worries and idiosyncrasies.
It's no secret that we're crazy about books over here. But perhaps what is not as well known is how crazy we are about children's books. I know I have my little sidebar of books that Sydney and I are currently turning pages in, but I thought I'd show off some of the ones we're especially enjoying these days.
When Yvonne posted about this book for her March Book Club, I quickly added it to my Amazon Wish List. My mom, ever the observant one (and armed with her rewards from her Amazon Visa), got this book for Sydney. It is so enchanting, with tiny miniature sets for all the pictures, and wonderfully witty writing to tell the story. I'm in love with this book, and I know Sydney will be too.
Years ago I got this book for my friend's daughter. Later on, when the little girl was old enough to say so, she said, "The rainbow book is my favorite book." That was enough reason for me to get it for Sydney. The magical part about this book is that a ribbon opens up with each page. Sydney loves to watch the rainbow ribbons add up: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. Amanda told me that she ordered this book, and I hope she loves it as much as we do!
Technically, this isn't a kids' book, but it's new to my shelf so I had to show it off. My mom got me Stupid Sock Creatures as an early Mother's Day present. She even provided half a dozen socks to go along with it. I first spied this book when my SIL Sarah got it for Christmas from my brother. She hosted a sock-monster party, and has even started a blog showcasing all her sockie creations. She's really fab at it, so if you have a special sock that needs to be fashioned into something a bit more cuddly, she can do it. If the sock craze catches on here, I think I know what all our extended family will be getting for Christmas (and birthdays, and baby showers...).
Hopefully today we'll have more of this amazing sunshiney weather that we've had the past few days...you'll find us on the deck reading!
