Two degrees of separation from Flight of the Conchords

Okay. I can't keep it in any longer. I have to brag.

Right now? I'm listening to the new Flight of the Conchords album. (Not familiar with them? Here's a good YouTube sampling (don't watch with kids in the room): Business Time, Jenny, Hiphopopotamus vs Rhymenoceros (my favorite).)

I have to tell you, this band just makes me laugh. They are silly silly guys, who have quite a knack for ridiculously funny lyrics.

They also have great taste in illustrators. I know this because MY BROTHER designed the artwork for their new album.

MY BROTHER! Tyler Stout!

Is that just the coolest or what? That's why even though the album--already ranked #4 in music at Amazon--doesn't come out until Thursday, I have been able to listen to it since last Thursday because Tyler got advance copies of the CD and sent each of his siblings a copy.

You should check out Tyler's website for other artwork that's featured in the album, and then head over to Amazon and buy the CD because it comes with a poster filled with Ty's artwork. Oh, and also because Flight of the Conchords is darn funny.

And now that Tyler is rich and famous--or at least not poor and not in the witness protection program--I can proudly say I've known him since he was born and once upon a time I put a trashcan on his head.

He is one talented guy, and I'm darn proud of him.

Funny--two months ago I'd never even heard of Flight of the Conchords. Then my husband discovered them on YouTube and started playing them for me ("The Humans are Dead" is my favorite). And then I read on your sister-in-law's blog about the album artwork and was duly impressed. And then I saw a little blurb about the Conchords' new album in Time magazine last week felt and cool because I had read about that album on a blog before it showed up in the magazine. All this Conchord convergence all at once! That's very, very cool for your brother.

They are very funny and your brother did a fabulous job on the cover! How great is that???

Too cool! What a talent.

Your brother is amazing! Being creative must run in your family. Your banner is beautiful; I love it!

OH, MY--I just saw in your sidebar that your cousin is Erik Larson! He wrote one of my favorite books in the world--Devil in the White City. Wow.

Margaret:
Sorry to disappoint, but my cousin Erik Larson is actually a different Erik Larson than the more well-known one. This is my cousin's first book, and his publish-name is Erik M. Larson.

Still a good read, but I suspect it's not quite as good as Devil in the White City. :)

Gotta have a listen at that. Very cool album cover. I have wondered what the inside of Tyler's brain must look like--I mean what he sees behind his eyelids, to be that original.

This is too cool...your brother must be so thrilled to see his work so out there. I would brag, too.

I love Flight of the Conchords! It's so cool that your bro designed their album cover.

indeed, your brother made a great design for this album; it made me think of a designer who made wonderful designs for the beatles, yellow submarine and much more.
never heard of the flight of the conchords, but had a lot of fun watching them on you tube:), thanks for sharing, they realy are great!

Hahaha, that is AWESOME. Our church's two youth pastors did a parody of Business Time for a big youth event we had, and there's a small contingent of us who reference the Conchords frequently ("it was the daytime of the night...."). I can't wait to pick up this album, knowing that I've got three(!!!) degrees of separation to the Flight of the Conchords.

OH my goodness. I'm so thrilled. It's a great cover, and Flight of the Conchords is our new go-to for silly quotations. And also, baby entertainment.
