Although we spent nearly all our days immersed in all things Disney, we did spend one day at Universal's Islands of Adventure.
Islands of Adventure has some great grown-up rides, but aside from a cool Dr. Seuss area, it's not particularly a small child destination. In hindsight, I'm sure the girls would have had more fun at Sea World (Jules in particular), but fortunately I did get to go on some cool rides.
Even more importantly, I got to see what kind of construction was going on in the way of the new Harry Potter theme park that will be located inside Islands of Adventure.
I'm sure The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is going to be a huge draw for Universal, and it will no doubt make the lines considerably shorter for the rest of the park rides. Good news for non-HP fans, I guess.
So far, however, construction is not all that impressive. Since 2010 is a mere 4 1/2 months away, I'm guessing the park has ideas of a late mid-to-late 2010 opening for HP.
I'm guessing the above photos are going to be the exterior for Hogwarts.
And this is probably an entrance into Hogsmeade.
My friend Devon suggested that I sneak into the construction area, but I really doubt I would have seen anything more interesting than what I could see from the park. Aside from the signs and the castle exterior, it was not too exciting.
However, I'm pretty sure that the rollercoaster ride Dueling Dragons will be converted into a Harry Potter ride, and if that's the case, then I can say I've already had a small taste of what The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will feature.
If only they were serving butterbeer samples outside the construction zone...
